October 9, 2011

Happy Sunday, everyone! This morning I woke up around 9:00 after a lovely night’s sleep and had a leisurely breakfast. The high for the day was 67 degrees so I got to wear jeans and a light sweater! I love this fall weather we’re having. Around 10:15, I set out on a walk, wanting to take advantage of the beautiful day. That walk turned into a five-hour walk/adventure :) First, I walked through the park across the street from my house, exploring parts of it that I had not seen before. After that, I wandered to the park next to that one and walked through there, taking in the sunshine and enjoying all of the families out and playing together. From there, I walked down toward the center of the city, then across the river to Santa Spritio. I had heard that there was an antiques market there this Sunday and, sure enough, there was a huge market with antiques, food, arts and crafts…all sorts of things! I did not buy anything but it was so much fun to look around at everything. There were a lot of people there as well, both tourists and locals, so that was cool as well. After spending about an hour there, I headed over toward Palazzo Pitti and then Ponte Vecchio, just wandering and enjoying the day some more :) I got lunch at a little café and ate it in a little piazza, off the main drag. I kept wandering through the city, gave a fair share of Americans directions to various places, and then decided to wander back toward the bus stop to get a ride home because my feet were starting to hurt. I caught the bus home around 3:15. It was a lovely day of just wandering around, happening upon markets and different parts of the city I had not yet experienced. Not so interesting to write about in a blog post but I really enjoyed it.

I got home around 3:30 and, since I only had a little homework left to do, I was able to relax for a bit. I am so glad I wrote my paper the day it was rainy and I didn’t want to be outside because it was so nice to actually be able to enjoy the beautiful days without having a paper hanging over my head! No one else was home so I took my computer into the living room and relaxed on the couch and used the internet in there. I was able to talk to some of my friends, which was SO wonderful because I don’t get to talk to them all that often. After a while, I decided I had better finish up my homework so I did just that, which took me up to dinner.

For dinner this evening, we started with risotto with apples and sausage that was delicious—I had two servings. Daniella offered to pick out the sausage for me but I told her to leave it in and it was very good! For our main dish, we had omelets and grilled eggplant, which were both delicious as well. We finished off with clementines and gelato for dessert! A very delicious dinner, as usual :)

I am all done with my homework now so I don’t have to cram anything in before bed, which is nice. I have work-study tomorrow morning at 9:00 so I don’t have to get up too early, but I still don’t want to go to bed really late. A lot of people in our group are sick, including Franzi, and I am trying my hardest to stay healthy, but it’s pretty difficult when there’s really no escape :P Anyway, hopefully getting a lot of sleep will help. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and I wish you a good start to this next week. I can’t believe we only have four days of class and then it’s already fall break! I leave for London a week from tomorrow! Anyway, have a wonderful rest of your Sunday :)

Love, Kari
