October 6, 2011

This morning I woke up around 9:00 after about ten hours of sleep, which was so nice. I got ready, had a leisurely breakfast and then headed into school around 10:30. I decided to start some background research for my Medici paper so checked out a few books from the ACM library and spent the next few hours reading, taking notes, and researching. The topic, artist, and painting I chose are actually really interesting so I think it will be kind of an enjoyable paper to write! I am planning on going to visit San Marco, where the actual painting is, sometime tomorrow and then I will write the paper sometime this weekend. It isn’t due until next Friday but I would love to finish it up this weekend so I don’t have to worry about it during the week. While I was researching, I ate lunch and then, at 1:15, I headed a few classrooms over for Italian. First we had our quiz and I got one hundred percent, which was lovely :) Then we learned direct objects and did a little bit of review.

After Italian, I walked to San Lorenzo where our Medici class was meeting before we walked across the street to the Medici Palace. From 3:00-4:30, we toured the palace and talked about the architecture of the building. It is unfortunate because, when the Medici were exiled, their palace was ravaged so there is almost nothing in the palace that is the same as it was when they lived there. In the 1600s the palace was sold to the Ricardi family, who completely redid it so it was changed even more. However, the Chapel of the Magi still remains mostly intact, which features a very famous fresco with a procession toward the nativity scene. It has been incredibly well preserved and was really incredible to see. The colors are stunning and the history behind it is as well. Class ended at 4:30 and we were free to go. I wandered a little bit through the city and then headed back to the school to get my backpack and head home. I got home around 6:00, sent a few emails and did a little bit of homework so I wouldn’t be completely overwhelmed over the weekend.

Andrea had to work late this evening so it was just the three of us girls. We started out with a thick rice and black bean soup that was very good and warmed us up, as the night got a little chilly. For our main dish, Daniella and Franzi had some sort of pork and I had really delicious cheese along with bread and olive oil. We all had garlic peas that were really yummy, as well. For dessert, we had apples and bananas. A lovely dinner and lovely conversation :)

Tomorrow there is a bus strike that starts at 9:15 a.m. so I am going to try and get into school before then. I might work for an hour or two and then head over to San Marco to see the painting I am writing my paper on. Then I will probably head back to school, do a little more research and then maybe start on my paper. I guess we’ll see :) It’s supposed to FINALLY get a little cooler tomorrow and then, hopefully, stay cooler from now on. It’s also supposed to rain a bit tomorrow so that would be nice for staying inside doing research. Have a wonderful rest of your Thursday!

Love, Kari
