September 4, 2011 continued
I spent most of the afternoon in our room as well as doing Laundry. Franzi left to find a spot where the Internet might get a better connection so I wrote some postcards, read a little, and even got a chance to sing. My host parents were out back in the garden (even though it was pouring rain) so I didn’t have to worry about bothering anyone. It was so nice to be able to sing :) I really missed it. For dinner this evening we started with mushroom risotto, followed by grilled vegetables and bread with special goat cheese. Then we had a dessert of ice cream cake, which is not what you think. It’s incredible. It was so rich and creamy…gelato in cake form. I’m guessing we had special things because it was Sunday :) Then, after our cake, we each had a peach. So much food but so wonderfully delicious! Communicating at the dinner table is getting easier and easier and is a lot of fun. Dinnertime is my favorite time of day. I love not only the food but also practicing my Italian and getting to know our family. In fact, tonight at dinner, Daniella said that sometime she would show us her studio out back where she paints. We had no idea she painted and she proceeded to show us all of her paintings around the house. She is an INCREDIBLE artist. I will have to take some photos of her art to share. She says she is just a beginner but it’s the type of art you see in museums. Simply incredible. Now dinner is over and we’re just relaxing. It’s been so nice to have a day to relax. Plus, because it rained, is SO cool so we have a chilly breeze coming into our bedroom, which is a BEAUTIFUL change from the hot, humid room we’ve had the past week. I’ll probably try to get to bed a little early tonight so I can continue to catch up on sleep. Sorry my photos are taking so long to upload. I would just bring my computer to school to upload them but I prefer not to bring my computer every day now if I don’t have to. Maybe I will upload photos once or twice a week separate from my actual blog posts about the day. We’ll see.
Anyway, I have a few other things to do before bed so I’d better get to those. I hope the weather stays cooler and never gets as hot and humid as it was. Our second Italian quiz is on Thursday so I am sure we have a lot more to learn this week in class. I’d better get some sleep because, otherwise, my brain doesn’t work fast enough to speak or understand Italian :P I hope all is well with all of you, my friends and family. I send all my love from Italy as always.
Love, Kari
