Buona Sera! This morning I had Italian quiz number two and did very well on it; only got one wrong! Let’s hope this continues over the next few months :) After our quiz, we learned directions and how to ask for directions. Then, after our break, we went out into the city and had to ask directions to find our way to certain places around Florence. It was actually a lot of fun and a great way to get better acquainted with the city. At the end, we were rewarded with gelato :) Also, I got a letter from my family today! I was the first one on the trip to get a letter and everyone was very jealous. It was very exciting!
After that, we had about an hour before we had to meet the group so we went back to the school for lunch and to do our homework. After a while, we headed out to meet the group at the archeological museum. We, once again, had an archeologist lead us through the museum, explaining the different Etruscan artifacts. It was very interesting although I was very exhausted at that point. This heat and all that we have been doing wears you out, even when you get a full night’s sleep.
When we got home from the museum, Massimo and Marco were over and we got to play for a little bit with Massimo! By the way, Marco is the CUTEST baby ever. I will have to ask if they ever want a babysitter :) Right now, I’m enjoying sitting on the balcony in the cooler weather now that it’s later, looking out at the garden and listening to the sounds of the city. It’s so relaxing out here. Dinner is in about an hour and a half and I am definitely getting hungry. I’m still not used to late dinners! I will update more, later this evening.
DINNER SMELLS AMAZING! That’s all :)
Okay, I just ate the most incredible dinner…and some much of it, too. We started off with a kind of fried dough that was very airy on the inside, KIND OF similar to a popover. You cut open the roll and, inside, you put a creamy cheese (like cream cheese but better) and salami. Andrea asked me if I wanted to try the Milanese Salami, apparently very special, and I did. It was DELICIOUS! YAY I ATE MEAT! Look at me Mom and Dad! I had two of the rolls with Salami and cheese and, when everyone was done, there was one left and Andrea said to give it to me. I LOVED them and ate it with pleasure. Next, Andrea brought out a pizza HE HAD MADE with Gorgonzola cheese. It was the most delicious pizza I have ever eaten…and that’s an understatement. It was heavenly. I even ran to get my camera to take a photo of it. You have not lived until you have tried Andrea’s pizza. Seriously, Dad, you’d better come visit ;) AND, Mom and Dad listen up again, I asked him if he would teach me how to make it and he said yes. So hopefully I will be able to make it for you when I come home! And, the rest of you reading this, maybe I’ll have a big party and you can all come eat Italian food that I learn to cook :) I had two pieces of pizza (HUGE pieces…about the size of two and a half normal pieces) and Andrea just kept laughing at how much I was eating compared to usual. He asked if I still had room for fruit, to which I replied “sempre!” (always). We finished off with fruit salad and I even drank the fruit juice out of the bowl (they do it too, it’s not impolite, I promise). Andrea couldn’t stop exclaiming about how much I had eaten and we all laughed about it. Maybe the most satisfying meal I have ever had the chance to enjoy. So. Wonderful.
Anyway, now that I have written a novel about my meal, I’d better give you all a break. And I should let myself digest all the food I just ate. I’d better wait a while to go to bed. Tomorrow we have Italian in the morning and then, since it’s supposed to be really hot again, Franzi and I are thinking about doing some shopping. That way, we can be out of the sun, in the air conditioning and kind of relaxing after a very busy week. On Saturday, our group is taking a day trip to Monteriggione and Siena, which are two towns in Tuscany to the south of Florence I believe. I am really looking forward to that but hopefully it will not be so hot as it was when we went to Pisa.
That’s all for now. Hopefully your mouths will stop watering soon after reading about that dinner ;)
All my love,
Kari
