September 5, 2011

I fell asleep right away last night and slept through the night again! It is making me feel so much better. Hopefully this will keep up :)

This morning in Italian we had mock phone conversations and mock ordering in a restaurant or cafĂ©, which was a lot of fun. We’re moving so quickly through the language, which is crazy but so much fun and so helpful. After class, we got lunch at the market and just hung out for a little while. At 2:00, there was a work-study information meeting for anyone who wanted to work in the ACM (Associated Colleges of the Midwest) library. We will be cataloguing and other things within the library AND we’ll get paid for the hours we work. I am not sure yet how it will work with my schedule or how many hours I will get but it sure would be nice to make some money while I am here. More on that once we get going.

After the meeting, Franzi and I went to a stationary shop to get a wall calendar for our room and I got a notebook in which I am going to make my own planner of sorts. Then we headed home, dropped off our stuff, and headed to the supermarket. At the supermarket, we stocked up on food to make our own lunches for the next week. It will save a lot of money this way, which will be very nice. It was quite the experience shopping in the crazy busy supermarket. But it was fun. We then carried our groceries home (which is not far away but it sure seemed like it with the heavy groceries). We’re going to be so strong, carrying groceries home every week. We put our groceries in our designated spot in the fridge and then I worked on my planner and Franzi worked on the wall calendar. I got sick of it though so I decided to work on my blog post for a little bit :) Dinner smells delicious and I am very hungry. It’s hard to wait until 8:00 to eat every night but I am sure I will get used to it. And we certainly eat enough :P Also, to get into our apartment, you need the building apartment key as well as the key to get into our actual apartment. The key into our actual apartment but I couldn’t get the other one to work. Franzi’s worked so we were fine but Daniella got me a new key today and I can officially get in on my own! HOORAY! Okay, more later, after dinner!

Dinner was delicious as per usual. We started with shell pasta with tomato and basil sauce. They had some sort of meat for dinner and I had my soy burger and we all had eggplant and tomatoes. For dessert we had peaches again, which are so sweet and delicious! The conversation at dinner was even more wonderful this evening. We have so much fun all together! Also, Sonja, Daniella asked what your name was and she said her mother’s name is Sonja! I doubt she spells it with a “J,” probably with an “I” but I was still excited to hear that.

Now that dinner is over, Franzi is using the Internet while I finish this blog post and then we’ll switch in a bit. I am pretty tired, even after a wonderful night’s sleep, so I will probably go to bed earlier this evening again. Tomorrow we have Italian class in the morning and then another free afternoon due to some strike going on in Florence so buses won’t be running and a lot of things will be closed. A good day to just wander around Florence, go to the park, take a nap…or all of the above :) The nights are getting a lot cooler which is nice for sleeping but the days are still very warm, although no longer in the nineties (thank goodness). I’m praying the fall weather gets here very soon. I am definitely ready for it.

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day! To those who begin school this week, best of luck and have a wonderful semester!

Goodnight xoxo

Kari

P.S. For those of you who don’t know, “Book of Mormon” is a big new musical on Broadway right now. So when I was listening to “Book of Mormon” yesterday, I was listening to the soundtrack from the musical. No worries, I have not converted to Mormonism on this trip :P Just thought I would clear up the confusion. Ciao!
