November 8, 2011

This morning I had to get up fairly early, but thankfully I went to bed fairly early so it wasn’t too bad. This morning my Weaving the Tale class was at the Bargello museum, which was kind of fun because we so often have class just in the classroom. Most of our class period was held in the courtyard of the museum, which I really like, although it was a little bit chilly. Thankfully I had dressed warm even though the weather wasn’t supposed to be that cold, so I stayed warm enough during our discussion out there. Then, for the last part of class, we went inside to look at a few examples of the wedding chests that are referenced in The Decameron and Alex gave a presentation and led a discussion on those, which was actually quite interesting. After class, I headed back to school where I used the Internet for a little while and had an early lunch. Then, around noon, I caught the bus home so I could drop off my computer and my other stuff so I wouldn’t have to carry it to our onsite Medici class in the afternoon. Once I had dropped off my stuff, I caught the bus back to school.

First thing this afternoon I had Italian class, which started out not so great and turned into a wonderful time. The first half was kind of stressful and I was just not in the best mood for some reason so that was no fun. However, in the last half hour of class, Umberto decided that we would listen to an Italian song and work on our listening skills that way, since it might brighten our moods a little bit. It sure did and, by the end of class we were all dancing and singing along in our room. It was so much fun and, at that point, I didn’t want to leave! However, we did have to eventually and I headed over to Santa Maria Novella (the church right across the street from our school) with Erin to meet our Medici class. We had class onsite there today, which was actually very interesting. I had been there once before with my Weaving the Tale class but it had not been so much to focus on art as to talk about other things. AND our class got out half an hour early, which never happens. We usually get out half an hour late, if not later. I mean, it is very interesting but it can also be kind of frustrating. But we were very happy for the early release today!

After class, I caught the bus home and worked on some homework. I finished preparing my presentation on the story of Queen Esther for my Weaving the Tale class tomorrow and finished two reflectories for my Dante class, working ahead a little bit. I have now finished my homework for the week as well as Monday, so I will not have to do any homework while I am out of town this weekend! I don’t think I have ever had this much motivation and worked ahead so much in my life! I have no idea where it’s coming from but it sure is nice. By the time I finished up my homework and had done a few other things, it was time for dinner.

This evening we started with tortellini, which was absolutely delicious and much anticipated! I saw it in the fridge a few days ago and was certainly hoping it was for dinner sometime this week :) For our main dish we had “cheeseburgers,” a tomato salad that tasted like summer (I don’t know how to explain that but it did…), along with bread and cheese. We followed that with our fruit for which I had a “blonde kiwi” which was so yummy. For dessert, we had chocolate and wine…very classy. Why the classy dessert you may ask? Well, while we were having dinner, Andrea flipped on the news to see if there was anything noteworthy and, in fact, there was news. We didn’t understand all of it (as it was in Italian) but it sounds like Berlusconi will not be in power much longer, which is to much relief of many many people in Italy. We’ll see what happens!

I am still feeling a little bit under the weather so I am probably going to go to bed fairly early again tonight. However I will have time to post my blog, stretch and perhaps watch an episode of Glee Season 2 (Franzi just gave me the whole season…this is dangerous) before I go to bed because I don’t have class until 10:00 tomorrow, so I will be able to sleep in a bit. However I am already pretty tired so I probably won’t be able to keep my eyes open too late :P Well Franzi and I were looking into Christmas markets and decorations in Florence online this evening, as well, and we found that there is a big German Christmas market every day starting one of the last days of November or maybe the first of December. It is in Piazza Santa Croce and it’s all lit up at night. We also read a few things about a huge Christmas tree in one of the piazzas and lights on every street so we’re hoping all of those things go up early in December, before we leave! We are ready for Christmas to be here! It really would be quite magical to see Florence all lit up like that so I hope we will be able to experience it :) I hope you are all having a lovely day!

All my love,

Kari
